Accountant

This position is for an accounting professional responsible for maintaining the general ledger, revenue, and expenditure statements for the City of Greater Sudbury, with responsibilities including reconciliations, financial reporting, and internal controls.

Location: Tom Davies Square, Greater Sudbury, Canada

Salary: $35.12 to $44.31 per hour (subject to review)

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed analyses, month end reconciliations and record journal entries for general ledger accounts.
• Prepare year-end working papers and complete Financial Information Return (FIR) schedules.
• Reconcile and submit revenue confirmation requests to funding organizations.
• Deposit various payments to appropriate accounts.
• Recommend revisions to accounting business processes and internal control procedures.
• Provide technical support to bookkeepers, analysts, Customer Service Clerks and departments.
• Maintain log of Accounts Payable cheques and ensure all cheque numbers are accounted for.
• Balance inventory and oversee periodic verification.
• Train petty cash custodians and conduct inspections.
• Maintain the CGS chart of accounts and PeopleSoft trees.
• Review process scheduler results and troubleshoot system issues.
• Run maintenance utilities for financial systems.
• Prepare and assist with financial, statistical, and economic studies and reports.
• Relieve Senior Accountant during absences.
• Respond to inquiries from CGS staff.
• Develop and maintain knowledge of CGS’s Safety Manual and legislation.
• Perform other related duties.

Requirements

• Community College diploma in Accounting, Business Administration or related discipline.
• Enrolment in a University and accounting designation program considered an asset.
• Over 2.5 to 5 years of related accounting experience.

Additional Information

• Position is eligible for full-time remote work but requires ability to report to a work location on short notice.
• Salary range is preliminary and subject to review following job evaluation.
