Civil Service Secretary Chief Examiner

The City of Pullman Civil Service Commission is seeking an independent contractor for the role of Secretary and Chief Examiner. The position involves supervising civil service examinations, evaluating applicants, and ensuring compliance with civil service rules, reporting to the Civil Service Commission.

Location: Pullman, Washington

Salary: $400.00-$600.00 monthly

Responsibilities

• Evaluates and supervises the evaluation of applicants meeting the minimum qualifications.
• Supervises the conduct of all examinations, appointing experts, examiners, or proctors as needed.
• Decides all questions relating to applicant eligibility, examination admissibility, and related matters in coordination with Police or Fire Chiefs.
• Recommends certification of successful candidates to the eligibility list.
• Performs functions necessary for the proper administration of the Civil Service System and other duties assigned by the Commission.
• Attends all Commission meetings, records votes, prepares minutes, and refers examination-related matters for approval.
• Uses technology systems for communication and work management.
• Works an unpredictable schedule, including long hours, and meets deadlines under stress.
• Follows specific directives, maintains reliable attendance, protects confidential information, and complies with policies and laws.
• Communicates effectively both orally and in writing, and works collaboratively.

Requirements

• AA or BA in business, psychology, social sciences, paralegal, human resources, or a related field, or three years of relevant experience.
• The secretary and chief examiner shall be a properly qualified citizen of the city.

Benefits

• Salary range of $400.00-$600.00 monthly.
