Clinical Data Analyst

UChicago Medicine is seeking an Inpatient Coder - Clinical Data Analyst to code and abstract diagnoses and procedures from medical records, ensuring optimal reimbursement and quality reporting. This remote role is suitable for candidates outside the greater Chicagoland area.

Responsibilities

• Assigns ICD-10-CM/PCS codes and DRGs for inpatient records; assigns ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT codes for outpatient records
• Abstracts key data elements for billing
• Reviews records for clinical pertinence
• Interacts with providers for documentation clarification and education
• Abstracts and codes records for interim billing purposes
• Reviews records according to criteria for referral to physician reviewers
• Communicates with medical staff to ensure proper diagnosis and procedure assignment
• Maintains CE credits per AHIMA requirements

Requirements

• Associate or bachelor's degree
• Certification as RHIT, RHIA, or CCS
• Thorough knowledge of ICD-10CM/PCS and CPT coding systems, DRG systems, and reimbursement regulations
• Knowledge of hospital information systems, electronic medical records, and encoder
• Understanding of JCAHO standards for chart completion
• Knowledge of medical-legal confidentiality rules and regulations
• PC experience
