Head of Public Understanding

The Head of Public Understanding at NOPE is responsible for building and leading the company's presence in the public conversation about AI safety. The role involves engaging with builders, researchers, journalists, policymakers, and users to make complex issues accessible and foster a community around AI safety.

Location: Remote (US)

Salary: approximately $75/hour for 10 hours/week, initial 6-week contract

Responsibilities

• Manage and produce content for social channels about AI safety.
• Translate research and data into accessible and engaging material.
• Represent NOPE at webinars and events, building a recognizable voice.
• Collaborate with the team to develop and refine messaging and outreach strategies.

Requirements

• Deep care for relational and social safety in AI interactions.
• Existing writing and posting about AI system limits and safety concerns.
• A following and network on platforms like X, Bluesky, Substack, or LinkedIn.
• Ability to write naturally and leverage AI for research.
• Understanding of how LLMs are built and their limitations.
• Interest or knowledge of AI policy and legislation.
• Comfort with public speaking and representing viewpoints publicly.
• Ability to simplify complex ideas for debate and discussion.
• Commitment to advocating for humans in AI safety.
