Lead Software Engineer Ads

Jane Technologies is an MIT-founded eCommerce company in the cannabis industry, focusing on providing a seamless online cannabis shopping experience through a platform that connects consumers, dispensaries, and brands. The company is experiencing rapid growth and offers innovative services in the industry.

Location: Remote (US)

Salary: $175,000 - $195,000 a year

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of software engineers building scalable services, APIs, and SDKs for the digital merchandising platform.
• Work cross-functionally with other technical leads to establish shared prioritization frameworks and ensure delivery aligns with roadmap goals.
• Drive architecture and design decisions for the ads platform, setting technical direction and building consensus.
• Collaborate with Product Managers to develop robust and user-friendly advertising products.
• Work with Data Scientists and Machine Learning Engineers to analyze data and improve advertising through iterations.
• Own and evolve engineering standards, including code quality, review culture, and technical processes.
• Participate in design reviews and code reviews.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.
• Manage and grow a team of 3-4 engineers through regular 1:1s, goal-setting, and performance feedback.
• Partner with engineering leadership on hiring, role definition, candidate evaluation, and technical leveling.
• Identify gaps in team capability or process and propose improvements.

Requirements

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience in a product-centered team.
• 2+ years in a lead or people-management role, with a track record of shipping meaningful work.
• Experience with AdTech systems, ideally retail media, sponsored listings, or marketplace advertising.
• Systems-level problem solver with experience navigating ambiguous, high-complexity challenges.
• Strong Computer Science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, and code design principles.
• Proficiency in at least one system language (Go preferred, Java, etc.).
• Database fluency with relational, columnar, and document-based databases.
• Strong technical communication skills.
• Collaborative mindset with a passion for software craftsmanship.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure provisioning and testing, e.g., Terraform.
