Staff Backend Software Engineer (Revenue Engine)

Headway is building a new mental healthcare system to make therapy accessible and affordable by automating administrative work and creating tools for therapists. They serve over 75,000 providers and 1 million patients across all 50 states, aiming to reimagine mental healthcare delivery.

Location: Remote (US)

Salary: $224,000 - $280,000 base salary plus equity

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of fault-tolerant, observable, and deeply reconciled integrations with third-party services such as Stripe, Plaid, and payer clearinghouses.
• Build abstractions and standards for engineering teams to ship faster and more safely on top of the platform.
• Write code, mentor senior engineers, and shape operational excellence in the payment domain.

Requirements

• Experience with distributed systems problems such as concurrency, idempotency, and partial failures.
• Strong coding skills in TypeScript and Python 3.
• Ability to design fault-tolerant, observable, and reconciled integrations with third-party services.
• Experience leading technical design and mentoring engineers.
