Staff Software Engineer, Data Infrastructure

Praia is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to serve as a technical anchor and architect for their core consumer experience platform, focusing on high-performance Java services, Databricks ETL pipelines, and healthcare integrations.

Location: Remote (US and Canada)

Responsibilities

• Build and scale foundational platform services for Praia’s consumer experience products.
• Build and operate enterprise healthcare integration services using HL7 FHIR APIs.
• Utilize Databricks and Apache Spark for complex data engineering workloads.
• Develop and own secure APIs with authentication, authorization, and documentation.
• Build CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, infrastructure-as-code, and monitoring.
• Partner with Product, Design, and Customer-facing teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience building and operating production software with staff- or senior-level scope.
• Strong programming skills in Java, Python, and Spark.
• Hands-on experience with Databricks and comfort working with data teams.
• Experience integrating with EMR/EHR systems and healthcare interoperability standards, especially FHIR APIs.
• Experience designing and delivering cloud-native services on AWS/Azure/GCP, including Kubernetes and Terraform.
• Deep knowledge of OAuth2/OIDC, API security patterns, and secure SDLC practices.
• Experience with modern observability tools and incident response.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in CS/Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
