Publishing Product Manager

The Publishing Product Manager on the Books team is responsible for developing market-ready book products from concept to launch, working closely with leadership, authors, and cross-functional teams. The role requires creative judgment, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple titles simultaneously.

Location: Remote (US)

Responsibilities

• Participate in early concepting conversations with leadership and authors, translating notes into product concepts.
• Drive the overall vision, positioning, and content direction of new book products from concept through launch.
• Validate concepts with real readers through interviews, surveys, and community research.
• Own the author relationship from concept through launch, serving as the primary creative partner.
• Scout and cultivate relationships with prospective authors.
• Ensure manuscript, title, cover, and materials align with original concept.
• Create a multi-year product plan focusing on growth and profitability.
• Establish requirements and communicate vision to stakeholders.
• Collaborate on go-to-market strategy with marketing teams.
• Determine product pricing based on research and costs.
• Develop metrics to assess product success.
• Lead planning meetings and guide product direction.
• Manage contracts and project management of content creators.
• Maintain knowledge of Ascension's products and offerings.
• Assist in reviewing unsolicited submissions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Business, English, Theology, or related field.
• 5+ years in product management, acquisitions, brand strategy, or content development.
• Ability to build relationships with authors and external contributors.
• Strong creative and editorial instincts.
• Experience with customer or audience research.
• Collaborative spirit and enthusiasm for teamwork.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Proven project management skills.
• Familiarity with the Catholic market is a plus.
• Willingness to travel occasionally to Exton, PA.
