Payroll Accountant III, Remote

The Payroll Accountant III is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and compliance of payroll-related financial processes, supporting audits, process improvements, and providing expertise on financial and accounting matters.

Salary: $71,200–$115,700/yr

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain payroll-related account reconciliations including payroll tax accounts and investigate and resolve discrepancies between payroll system records and tax filings.
• Prepare and support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities by preparing and ensuring all adjusting and accrual journal entries are entered and posted.
• Support internal and external audits by providing payroll documentation, reconcile and validate data, sampling and testing, and analysis.
• Identify, recommend and implement quality and productivity improvements. Document tax processes and maintain compliance records for regulatory and audit purposes. Maintain standard operating procedures.
• Provide subject matter expertise or recurring and ad hoc reports and analysis on key financial/accounting matters to appropriate leaders and/or areas within the organization.
• Maintain accurate tax jurisdiction setup in payroll systems to ensure proper withholding and register for state and local tax accounts.
• Apply knowledge of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) to accurately calculate employee compensation, including gross-to-net pay, pre-tax and post-tax benefits, and their impact on taxable wages.
• Research and resolve payroll tax notices from government agencies and state/local taxing authorities (IRS, Department of Revenue, etc.).
• Support quarter-end and year-end payroll tax reporting including W-2 preparation and reconciliation of quarter-to-date and year-to-date payroll wages, taxes, and deductions in the payroll system and ensure totals reconcile with general ledger payroll accounts.

Requirements

• 4+ years related work experience.
• Related Bachelor's degree required in Accounting or Finance.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Proficient in Excel.
• Experience with General Ledger ERP systems.
